Volunteer Resources
Consistency is so important to make sure every animal receives the love and attention they deserve. If you’re unable to make one of your scheduled shifts, please fill out the form below so we can arrange coverage. The more notice you’re able to give, the easier it is for us to ensure the animals are well cared for.
Want to stay more connected to what’s happening at the shelter? HES uses the Band app to keep in touch with our volunteers. If you’re an active volunteer, simply download the Band app and click here to request access to our HES Volunteers group. Please note, the group is limited to current active volunteers only

All new volunteers are required to complete the Fear Free shelters certification before they are eligible to work hands on with the animals. Click HERE to get your verification form, then click the button above to upload the form and start certification.
All new HES volunteers are required to complete their first 12 hours in a Shelter Support role before being eligible to work hands on with the animals. Once you have completed your 12 hours in a Shelter Support role, you will be eligible to switch to one of the following volunteer jobs. Please know that you will continue to be scheduled in a Shelter Support role until you have informed the volunteer services manager which “job” you would like your recurring scheduled shift to be switched to and you have completed the necessary training to be eligible for that job.

Did you experience a behavioral interaction with an animal that you feel our staff should be aware of? If so, please fill out this form to notify our Animal Behavior Team. Your report will help us assess the animal’s behavior and determine if additional steps are needed to prevent similar situations in the future.
