Emergency Relief

You can give directly to the shelter HERE.  Please be sure to specify Emergency Relief (currently shows Hurricane Harvey but it's being updated) in the dropdown.

If ever the Humane Educational Society needs help, it will be in the next few months at the thrift store, Deja Nu.

After several volunteers and two staff members worked extremely hard to get the store in tip-top shape, a car crashed into the front of the building December 3rd, taking out half of our items and leaving us not being able to reopen for business Tuesday. There were no people or animals harmed.

This store brings in a lot of revenue for the shelter (I'm talking upwards of $100,000 a year) and now we'll miss the holidays and a few months of operation.

If you would like to be part of the volunteer crew, please fill out this volunteer form and you'll receive email updates and as we go along this journey. Something good will come of this and the store will thrive again!

Thank you!

Tuesday, December 5th Update:

Deja Nu Update!

We're getting a building upgrade! We're staying in the same spot (so yay for not moving all our stuff) and we're getting a new storefront, carpet, and storage shelving.

The entire storefront will be glass, from what it sounds like so it will look nicer as well.

We took an inventory of damaged items today and the cleaning crew is coming in the morning to remove debris and the old carpet.

This is exciting, for sure, given the circumstances, and we will need help sorting things we'll need on the shelves again. There was glass all in the clothing so we're needing to stock the racks again. If you can help, please let me know and I'll get you our start date for sorting and hanging!
We'll need help dusting after the carpet and debris is removed as well.

Thank you so much for the support everyone has shown the last few days! I hope we can pull together and have a quick turn around.
